Notice Regarding the Energy Aggregation Program:
For those residents who participate in the energy aggregation program, the existing natural gas provider, Volunteer Energy, no longer services the program, effective end of February, 2022.
Due to extreme volatility within the energy market, there were no good options for renewal and so it was best to send customers within the agreement temporarily back to using the utilities default rate.
As a result, everyone in the program has moved back to the default utility for natural gas for the time being (e.g., Columbia Gas).
Managing market risk and volatility and now more recently supplier risk has become the number one concern versus only worrying about low price without having fixed assurance of that cost.
As a result of the variation in the market, the emphasis has shifted to the importance of managing these and other risks by seeking to secure a lower cost fixed rate over a period of time.
On Monday March 14th, 2022, the Board of Trustees approved to enter a contract with Archer Energy for a period of 12 months at 2% guarantee lower than the default natural gas provider pending County prosecutor approval. More updates will be posted as available.
